Toft Workshop - Steam Locomotive - Handmade Wooden Gift
This iconic 19th Century American Steam Locomotive is made using re-cycled parquet flooring by TOFT GIFTS in Cambridgeshire. TOFT GIFTS work with a local floor sanding company & recycle old flooring to make these gorgeous replica iconic wooden gifts
Made from ethically sourced wooden flooring
Every component of the vehicle is made from recycled wood
The basic shape of the vehicles is cut with a band saw and then the initial shaping is started with a table router. After these machines have given a rough outline, elbow grease takes over and the detailed sanding begins.
The assembly process requires only glue. A PVA glue is used to bond the components (so super strong) it holds the wheels incredibly securely.
After the sanding and construction the timber is sealed using NATURAL BEES WAX which has been approved for use on children’s toys.
Every single vehicle is finished in this way and no two are exactly the same. Every one has a unique number stamped on the underside & a record of every vehicle produced is kept - so your gift is unique
The current timber stock will last some time but will eventually run out & then more flooring will be found & recycled, possibly maple, possibly not – its all part of the individuality of the items produced.
